Every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, businesses all over the country participate in Small Business Saturday. This event was founded by American Express in 2010 to offset some of the business lost to major retailers on the day after Thanksgiving, otherwise known as “Black Friday.” Many businesses in the Rockport-Fulton area are participating in Small Business Saturday this year, and there has truly never been a better time to support local businesses than this year, post-Hurricane Harvey. Whether you’re a local reading this or a visitor to Majestic Oak Resort, we hope that on Small Business Saturday, as well as the rest of the year, you’ll help support the local businesses that keep our community going and are still recovering from the devastation of Harvey.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 25 th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at participating businesses in the Rockport-Fulton area. Each business participating in the event will have “Round a Bout” cards that you can collect. Bring your cards to Bella la Rue Boutique, located at 2816 TX-35 BUS in Rockport, at 4:30 p.m. for your chance to win prizes.

Even though the temperature has dropped a bit, you can still enjoy some pool time at the Rockport Community Aquatic and Skate Park. The heated, 8-lane, 25-yard pool and diving area makes it possible to swim all year. The pool also features an ADA-compliant chair lift for entry and exit into the water, and you’re sure to enjoy the new diving boards. The pool is open Tuesday through Saturday, and you can participate in water aerobics classes or enjoy dedicated water walking and lap swimming time throughout the week. You can even sign the whole family up for swim lessons, from six months old through adult.

When you’re tired of swimming, check out the 6,000-square-foot modular street-style skate park for some fast-paced fun! Skaters must be 10 years old or older. It costs just $1.00 to skate, and $1.00 for helmet rental. You can also enjoy the playground and park, featuring picnic tables, barbeque pits, and a mile-long hike and bike trail. No matter the weather, the 12 acres of live-oak forest makes for beautiful scenery.

Make sure to check out the website for more information, admission charges, and hours.

Twice a month, a unique event takes place in Fulton that is something you won’t want to miss when you stay at Majestic Oak. Belt Sander Racing combines power tools with competitive racing, and the South Texas Belt Sander Racing Association (SoTex BSRA) hosts competitions for the public to attend and even enter their own racer, if desired!

Belt sanders were one of the first power tools used for racing and race under two different classes: stock and modified. They move on a seventy-five-foot track and can go as fast as 50-60 miles per hour! If you’d like to enter your own sander, there are extensive rules and regulations on the SoTex BSRA website here .

The races are free to the public. They take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from October through March on the grounds of the Legends Saloon at 3720 N. Highway 35 in Fulton. Check in time for sanders is 1:30 p.m. and the races start at 2:00 p.m. and go to 4:00 p.m. For more information, check out the website here .

The first weekend in November brings the Rockport Film Festival to our shore every year, and this year is no exception! The festival showcases independent cinema and was created to serve the community by providing arts programming and encouraging cultural tourism. Accordingly, festival organizers decided the best way to serve Rockport this year, post-Harvey, was to make the Friday and Saturday screenings free so everyone who wants to can participate. The Thursday night Red Carpet Event still requires a paid ticket, and includes a reception with local food and refreshments as well as the premiere night film screening.

This year, 30% of the films showcased are international and 30% are from Texas, with the remainder from across the United States. Five of the films are full-length features and four 90-minute blocks will showcase the six to eight short films. You’ll have a chance to see films categorized as documentaries, fiction, and animated, as well as a student film.

All Friday and Saturday screenings are free this year and will take place in the Education Center of the Texas Maritime Museum. To purchase a VIP Red Carpet Party ticket for $75, you can go to the website here . The VIP Party takes place on the lawn at the Fulton-Bruhl House.

For more information about the festival, please visit their website here .

We’ve posted some updates on the status of Majestic Oak Resort and are happy to say that we are now open and able to take reservations!

Unfortunately, there are many areas of Rockport that are still working on Hurricane Harvey recovery. The curfew for the city has been lifted and businesses have begun to open back up. Rockport is resilient, and we will come out of this difficult time. If you would like to make a donation to help the Rockport-Fulton area with recovery from Harvey, you can do so at the official city and county fund here .

Rockport is currently gearing up for an event that will provide some much-needed relaxation and relief to our community. The 43 rd Annual Rockport-Fulton Seafair, is a multi-day festival from October 12 th - 15 th that will use music to help restore and uplift residents. All four days feature lots of fun for the entire family. Enjoy children’s activities, arts and crafts, a carnival, and other attractions. Local “Harvey Heroes” will be recognized at the festival, and it will be a nice break from the stress of the last six weeks.

Thursday brings a “Healing of the Bands” instead of a battle of the bands. Admission on Thursday is free and open to all from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission to the festival for the remainder of the weekend is via one-day ticket or a weekend pass. On Friday, country and western music takes center stage from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the legendary Joe Diffie headlining. The festival will run all day Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday’s headliners are Texas musicians Jake Ward, Hudson Moore, and you won’t want to miss the Seafood Gumbo and Chili Cookoff! Sunday’s event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and is considering a “Day of Healing.” Christian bands will perform all day, including headliner Sanctus Real. Make sure to check out the Just Desserts and Salsa Contest!

For more information on Seafair, visit the event website here .

At Majestic Oak Resort, we’ve been working hard over the last few weeks to repair our property and get ready to welcome back our guests. The Rockport-Fulton area was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey, and many businesses in the area will not reopen. But the community has come together to rebuild, and the area is slowly getting back on our feet. Majestic Oak was lucky—while we incurred damage, we were spared the worst.

Cleaning up the grounds was one of the biggest tasks, as we had significant damage to our beautiful oak trees. We cleared out all the debris and landscapers are working to get the property back to its normal appearance. We’ve prepared the area where the pool will go, so that project is moving forward. Repairs to the kitchen and rec room are going well and will be completed soon.

Because the structural damage was minimal, we’ve been working to get the urgent repairs out of the way so we can open to visitors. Then we can complete the more minor repairs without disruption of services. Right now, we have full hook-up ready, but we won’t have cable and wi-fi for a couple more weeks.

Please check the home page or call us to confirm that we are up and running for visitors before you come out. But rest assured, we’ll be back to normal operations for all our winter guests.

We’ve heard from so many of our guests since Hurricane Harvey came ashore, and we appreciate all of your kind words and thoughts. Harvey knocked us down a bit, but we got right back up and started cleaning and working to get our community back in order. We wanted to give concerned guests a little update on our progress since the storm and let you know that we’re looking forward to having you visit very soon.

Once the storm passed, and it was safe, we got to work! Our biggest loss was to our beautiful oak trees, which resulted in a significant amount of clean-up hours. Since returning on the 28 th , we’ve had equipment on site and lots of manpower to clear the park and the RV sites of debris. Repairs to our kitchen and rec room began on the 5 th , and we should have those finished quickly. We are still moving forward with the pool, but that will take some additional time to complete.

The good news is that we were lucky that the damage we sustained to our structures was minimal, so we can reopen to guests while completing the remaining work. In fact, by the time you read this update, we will hopefully have power restored and can welcome you back!

Please check the home page or call us to confirm that we are up and running for visitors. But rest assured, we’ll be back to normal operations for all our winter guests.

Art is probably not the first thing you think of when visiting the Coastal Bend. But we have a fantastic arts community, and the Rialto Theater in Aransas Pass is one of the area’s gems. There’s something for everyone at the Rialto!

On the first Saturday of every month (the next one is September 2 nd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m,) the Rialto hosts the Downtown ArtWalk. Starting at the Rialto, you’ll walk the route to tour various downtown art spots. Along the way, you’ll meet artists and enjoy receptions and happy hours. The Rockport Ukelele Club generally performs at the theater as well. Admission is free.

After this month’s Art Walk, stick around the theater for the 1 st Saturdays Blues and BBQ Concert series. September 2 nd features The Hot Attacks, who blend blues and classic rock. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased here .

The Rialto also hosts a jam session/open mic night every week, as well as classic movies on their big screen throughout the month. September’s film features include Coal Miner’s Daughter and Fried Green Tomatoes, among others. You can get all the information on their events by checking out their website here .

Just because you don’t have a boat doesn’t mean you can’t take advantage of the great fishing we have in the Coastal Bend. Grab your rod and reel and head out to one of the many fishing piers in the area. You’re sure to have a great time, whether you enjoy fishing during the day or at night. No boat needed!

Both beginners and experienced anglers will enjoy Red Dot Pier on the Humble Channel. It even has lots of light to make night-time fishing easy and fun. The pier is open from 6:00 a.m. to midnight daily, with extended hours until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. You can purchase bait and snacks, as well as rent equipment at the store.

Bob Hall Pier is another great spot to fish day or night. It’s only open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, but the pier stays open 24 hours on Friday and Saturday. You’ll have plenty of time to find the perfect catch from the elevated pier, which lets you fish 1,240 feet into the Gulf. If you need equipment or bait, you can purchase it at the pier, and they even have concessions to purchase.

Both Red Dot Pier and Bob Hall Pier require a $2.00 Pier Pass for access. For more information on pier fishing in Corpus Christi, stop by the Visitor Information Center at 1590 N. Shoreline Blvd. daily between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. or visit their website here . You can learn more about required licenses and obtain them here .
